J. Phil McCoy is president of McCoy Marketing Services, Corp. Light Sport America is a division of MMS. It markets and distributes light sport aircraft throughout the United States.

A graduate of Indiana University with a BA degree in communication, Mr. McCoy is an instrument-rated private pilot. He began his career in general aviation in 1975. He has worked for such notable names at King Radio Corporation, Fairchild-Swearingen Aircraft, and  Foster AirData Systems.

In 1986, he founded McCoy Avionics Corporation to design, manufacture, and market the MAC 1700 digital modification of the king KX 170 VHF Nav/Comm Transceiver. Initial shipments of the product began in February 1989, and the corporation sold over 6,000 Mac 1700s through a network of over 500 worldwide dealers.

McCoy invented and supervised the development and FAA certification of the product. He wrote all FAA STP/PMA and Repair Station materials for the company. In addition to FAA certification, he also successfully gained approval of McCoy Avionics as a USDA Medical Device Establishment, approved to manufacture non-invasive medical electronics.

In 1989, he led the company to an intrastate IPO in Ohio netting the company over 3,000 stockholders. He retired from active day-to-day management of the company in April 1997.

Since then Mr. McCoy has worked as a consultant for Ryan International Corporation, Sun Aviation, Houston Gulf Avionics, Eastern Avionics International, and Remos Aircraft.

Light Sport America Serves Light Sport Aviation Market

J. Phi McCoy, a 34-year veteran of the general aviation industry, founded Light Sport America (LSA) in 2008 to serve the fast-growing light sport aviation industry. LSA is designed to market and distribute light sport aircraft throughout the United States.

LSA is an operating division of McCoy Marketing Service, Inc., which is headquartered in Punta Gorda, Florida.

The light sport aircraft market is one of the fastest growing and largest market segments in general aviation. One source inside the FAA's Light Sport Aircraft Directorate in Oklahoma City has forecast that within 10 years, light sport aircraft will represent 50% of all new aircraft sales.

LSA is securing rights to distribute light sport aircraft and enlisting dealers with specific geographical territories. It also reserves the right to sell direct or through the nearest dealer.
